Valentine’s Day Purchasing Lingerie Tips

January 16th, 2012

As the love month is approaching, a lot of spouses, partners and friends are thinking on the delicate mission of acquiring lingerie as their gift. A high-end designer, Josie Natori, who just launched a limited-edition line at Target, has a few guidelines on navigating this personal territory.

She says that first it is significant to think about your relationship with the receiver. Giving lingerie sends the message that you are really close to that person says Ms. Natori. In a lot of cases, that can let somebody use the gift as emotional resonance. But it could also be labelled as pretty aggressive to be giving lingerie and sexy stuff early on in a relationship.

Ms. Natori gave tips that when picking out lingerie as a present, one should start by thinking about the gift recipient’s preferences. She said that if somebody likes to sleep in pyjamas, you don’t give them a teddy. And if a woman likes wearing pieces where her arms and body are more covered, and the husband gives her a short, sheer chemise with a plunging neckline, it’s so far away from her tastes that it’s going to make her think, you really don’t know her or who you really are buying it for.

She suggests choosing a style the wearer would akin to but pushing the envelope in other areas, for instance the colour or pattern. Ms. Natori believes that black, white, neutrals and hues in the pink family, such as rose, coral and watermelon, are safe choices when it comes to colours. Ms. Natori typically steers clear of giving strong colours that are not that common in lingerie, such as like green or yellow, unless the wearer likes those colours.

Ms. Natori advises touching or feeling the item that you’re planning to purchase to see how the fabric feels on the skin and ensure it isn’t scratchy.
